Between Us and Nature – A Reading Club #17: „Holobiont by Birth“

Living on a damaged planet challenges who we are and where we live. This timely anthology puts forward a bold proposal: entangled histories, situated narratives, and thick descriptions offer urgent ‘arts of living’. These essays posit critical and creative tools for survival in a more-than-human Anthropocene.”

To start with ‘Arts of Living on a Damaged Planet – Ghosts and Monsters of the Anthropocene’ cited above, we picked essays from the “Monsters” theme.

suggest that “Involution” powers the “evolution” of living and dying on earth. Rolling inward enables rolling outward; the shape of life’s motion traces a hyperbolic space, swooping and fluting like the folds of a frilled lettuce, coral reef, or bit of crocheting.

Quote by Donna Haraway: Symbiogenesis, Sympoiesis, and Art Science Activisms

In ‘Between Us and Nature – A Reading Club’ we read texts together related to natural sciences, art, anthropology, postcolonialism, and (post)anthropocene, chosen from a female perspective looking beyond disciplines.

Those who would like to attend the reading session, please rsvp via email to betweenusnature@gmail.com, and you’ll receive a selection of texts.

At this reading group we will read passages together out loud and share our experiences and thoughts about the nature we live in, what it means to us, and will discuss post-natural conditions or the implications of sympoiesis.

PLEASE NOTE: IN TERMS OF SUSTAINABILITY WE WILL NOT PRINT OUT THE TEXT.
