Fermentation as metaphor seeks to enunciate a different way of understanding the world through peaceful resistances. The phrase is inspired by Sandor Ellix Katz, a fermentation revivalist. These resistances have to do with the concepts of time, transformation, community, reproduction, bacteria and how we can use them in everyday actions.

The main objective of the workshop is to broaden the concept of fermentation and not only to consider it from a chemical point of view, but also from a metaphorical standpoint. One that can help us visualize our positionality inside the food systems, both cultural and ecological. Over the course of four sessions, we will do previously selected readings and in each session we will do hands-on exercises in the form of fermentation experiments and writing.  

Rebeca Pérez Gerónimo. Publisher and fermentist. She studied Literature and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin, with a focus on Gender Studies. She has participated in intensive writing workshops with Samanta Schweblin, Vera Giaconi and Federico Falco. Creative director of Librería Lugar Común in Caracas, where she focused on editorial and curatorial projects. Founder and editor-in-chief of the publishing laboratory Ediciones Concordia, where she works from the intersection between plants, fermentation and literature. Co-founder of the publishing house flores degeneradas. As an editor, she also works with collectives interested in ecology, feminism, food, art publications and creative writing. Her practice focuses on processes and contamination as collaboration.
