About the public garden installation:
“A community garden of plants named after battles or other acts of historicised conflict. All of the plants in this garden are cultivars registered with names commemorating battles and other military events, for example, Peony ‘Victoire de la Marne’, Polyantha Rose ‘Dunkerque’, Floribunda Rose ‘Atombombe’. They were bred by various rosieres and nurseries in Europe over the last few centuries, each one given a name signifying an act of organised violence. The Garden has been growing in the community gardens of the former (once military and civilian) airport Tempelhofer Feld, Berlin, since 2014, cared for by myself and the community gardeners. The plants growing here represent only a selection of a longer list of cultivar species named after battles, an non-exhaustive incomplete living (and dying) archive.”
