Plants and Animals - A sound performance by Felicity Mangan and Christina Ertl-Shirley

Performance starts at 8pm sharp! Entrance fee is 3 – 5 €.

C.E.S vs. Felicity Mangan (Plants and Animals) brings together both artists personal investigation into the sound phenomena produced by plants and animals – through the combination of c.e.s. submerged sonification of plant biochemistry, deploying self-built synthesizers, to capture and sonify of the chemical composition of plants. Mangan explores the timbre and forms of found and self-recorded animal voices while mimicking biophonic patterns to create minimal quasi-bioacoustic environments, utilizing a sampler and sequencer. Together they create electro-acoustic compositions grafting field recordings, live and pre-recorded drones and pulses produced by remnants of plant biochemistry subterranean together with modified animal voices embedded in a bioacoustic sphere of synthetic and oscillating hybrids.

Felicity Mangan is an Australian sound artist and producer based in Berlin since 2008. In different situations such as solo performance, collaborative projects with other musicians or installation, Felicity plays her found native Australian animal archive, either through stereophonic system or often via hand-made speakers made from re-cycled or displaced objects.

Christina Ertl-Shirley (c.e.s.) works with sound in form of sound installations, radio plays, concerts, workshops and radio features by putting experimental sound and storytelling into a dialogue. Her work encompasses composed soundart as well as radio documentaries and semi-improvised live shows and festival radio within the feminist radio collective SissiFM and by herself.
