We are happy to host a workshop afternoon introducing into the world of Ikebana in cooperation with ikeabana artist and florist Satoko Hatayama.
Satoko Hatayama was born in Fukuoka, Japan. She holds a certificate from Ikenobō, Japans oldest school for Ikebana. Since 1999 she is working with flowers, collaborating with local flower shops and coordinating florist events. She lived in different countries and is now based in Berlin Neukölln, where she has her own flower shop.
The history of the Ikenobo school, the cradle of Ikebana, is over 550 years old. In Ikebana, not only beauty is seen as important part in the arrangement of the flowers, but also individual feelings, the transientness of things, the passing of time. Ikebana appears when we sense the plant’s unspoken words and silent movements – which intensify our impressions of form.

– Satoko Hatayama shows an example of her Ikebana
– Satoko Hatayama helps you to arrange your own Ikebana (the Shoka form)
– You can take your own Ikebana home!
All the materials (flowers, vases and kenzans) are here – one thing you should bring yourself are secateurs/flower scissors or a knife to cut the plants.
