Book presentation: Metabolic Rifts Reader

This Friday, 21st June at 8 pm, editors Alexandra Balona and Sofia Lemos will present the publication METABOLIC RIFTS Reader at Zabriskie – in a dialogue with philosopher Etienne Turpin. The presentation will be both a publication launch and a conversation. The participants and guests are invited for a shared reading and discussion.

Drawing from its past assemblies (2017-2018), the METABOLIC RIFTS Reader, published and designed by ATLAS Projectos, contains critical contributions that address the perspective of global struggle surrounding the foreclosures of the Anthropocene. The book explores how different media, including scholarship, dance, dramaturgy, and curatorial knowledge, connect seemingly disconnected geohistories and vulnerabilities that engage with the Earth’s past, present and future tenses.

METABOLIC RIFTS is a series of events organized by PROSPECTIONS for Art, Education and Knowledge Production, a nomadic assembly for visual and performing arts research mobilized by Alexandra Balona and Sofia Lemos.
This programme encourages diverse approaches to planetary phenomena by investigating how the logic of capitalist accumulation and neoliberal reasoning destroys the metabolism of the earth’s systems. It proposes a forum for discussing the eroding histories and coming perspectives of these phenomena.
