How Do We Self-Organised? 1. Unionising
This issue originates from an event held on 24 July 2025. The texts by Jan Kunkel, Ragnhild Aamas and Dietrich Meyer are based on their talks at the event. It was organised by AG-Art Workers Solidarity, a working group of the bbk Berlin, as part of the art exhibition sich unverfügbar verknoten / Knotting Unruly Ties at nGbK in Berlin. The event was hosted by the Knotting Unruly Ties working group.
The AG-Art Worker Solidarity group was formed within the bbk Berlin (the Berlin Visual Artists’ Association) in response to the censorship and silencing of visual artists in Berlin who express solidarity with Palestine. The group also emerged in reaction to the precarious situation faced by artists due to funding cuts and deportation attempts, issues which have been exacerbated by the rise of right-wing extremism in Germany. Rather than treating these crises as isolated incidents, AG-Art Worker Solidarity seeks to foster collective resistance by organising regular meetings and building intersectional solidarity networks.
