This notebook presents a collection of plates by Japanese botanist and educator Kintarō Okamura, taken from his work 'Icons of Japanese Algae'. Published between 1907 and 1942, it comprises four volumes written in both English and Japanese, which offer a synthesis of his research on the algae of his country. They are accompanied by monochrome naturalist illustrations, most often in pinkish-red hues. Through the precision of his lines and the finesse of his observations, Kintarō Okamura is considered, along with Kichisaburo Yendo, to be the founder of phycological studies in Japan.
