Food is born from the sea, like all of life. What we have in common with all living beings—what allows life itself to be possible— is the ability to be nourished. And yet different modes of nutrition characterise different forms of life: who eats what, or who eats whom, determines the structure of food chains, ecosystems, and our place within them. The web of interdependence that constitutes the more-than-human world is rooted in our food systems and in the networks of mutual nourishment.”
