Like a Mad Gardener is a collection of essays and comics by Charlotte Winkler.
A prickly palm tree speaks from a London back garden while scissors hold a conference, weeds laugh and guardian angels protect fences.
In the warm earth hands roll over with worms and friends get to work.
This book is an attempt to get to the root of stories about borders, power, care, belonging, and otherness, and to understand what it means to garden.
Like a Mad Gardener is an artistic exploration of the garden at the intersection between private retreat and a place where society is negotiated. Memories intertwine with philosophical and social questions concerning conflict, care, and connection. Through drawings and texts, the garden becomes a stage on which stories unfold: a prickly palm tree speaks from a London back garden, scissors hold a conference, weeds laugh, and guardian angels protect fences, while in the warm earth hands roll over with worms and friends get to work.
