How can new texts be woven in today’s digital economies in which the infrastructure projects of multinational companies exploit whole regions? How can code be written in creole? Looming Creole convenes various spacialities and languages and a multitude of agencies. The volume discusses contemporary digital imaginaries of neoliberal multinational extractivism as terra nullius upgrade at the West African coast, and the long-held use of encoding matter as poetics of resistance within colonial extractivism. Various source/resource codes entangle horizontal threads of fabulations from left to right and from right to left. This loom creates a visual texture that articulates the subversive potency of rituals of quantum weaving against the engineering of binary extractive epistemologies.
With contributions by Joana Barrios, Wendy Chun, Filipa César, Zé Interpretador, Muhammed Lamin, Diana McCarty, Olivier Marboeuf, Saliha von Medem, Marinho de Pinha, Nelly Y. Pinkrah, Sadjo Sambu, Odete Semedo, and Mark Waschke.
