On Deepblue, Jakob Sinn aka NNIS explores the tension between structure and intuition. The six pieces are the result of a musical process that is both analytical and spontaneous. Synthesizers, percussive elements and everyday noises are interwoven into compositions that unfold in subtle variations and at the same time seem to follow an inner logic. They seem like an elongated, constantly evolving fabric of sound that slowly unfolds.
The title Deepblue suggests a depth that can be understood both spatially and conceptually - an immersion in layers of sound, texture and movement. At the same time, it recalls the moment when systems take on a life of their own and new spaces of possibility emerge - be it in music or, as was once the case with the legendary chess computer Deep Blue, in the interaction between calculation and surprise.
The title also contains a subtle reference to the beginning of the album's creation process. During the Covid-19 pandemic, millions of self-tests with the name Deepblue were used all over the world.
Deepblue was released this year in a limited edition (100 copies) as a tape on the Hamburg label ststst.
