Wanderweg is a zine about hiking. A mystic meditation on walking in nature; part diary, part field notebook, part folk tale. Wanderweg is completely bilingual, everything is told in both English and German depending on which side you read from. Inside you’ll find accounts of our walks, stories of folk horror, our own illustrations and photographs, Romanticism and the odd foray into imagination and dreams.

Issue One is 141 pages total (66 pages EN, 75 pages DE) and each copy comes with a free bookmark.

Wanderweg ist ein komplett zweisprachiges Zine über die Liebe zum Wandern:
Unsere Erzählungen findest du auf Deutsch und Englisch, je nachdem, von welcher Seite du das Zine aufschlägst.

Du findest hier ein Erinnern an all die Worte, Eindrücke und Bilder, die wir von langen Wegen mitgebracht haben. Gedanken über das Verrinnen der Zeit, über alte Geschichten und Mythen, die in den Landschaften weiterleben. Eine Hommage an Eskapismus, an die Natur und an den inneren Monolog, der einen Schritt für Schritt begleitet.

Wir möchten euch ein Stück weit mit auf diese Wanderungen nehmen und haben unterwegs gefundene Geschichten und Worte in diesem Zine gesammelt. Dabei verschwimmen Fiktion, das Mystische, Historisches und Selbsterlebtes, wie es Erinnerungen eben an sich haben.

Die erste Ausgabe umfasst insgesamt 141 Seiten (66 Seiten EN, 75 Seiten DE) und jedes Exemplar enthält ein kostenloses Lesezeichen.

About Wanderweg:

Wanderweg is made by Thomas and Kiyo. Thomas grew up in the UK, Kiyo in Germany (hence the bilingual nature of the zine), partners through life and through the landscape who hike together every spare moment we get. The idea originally came to us in 2021 and began life as "Forayer", a journal on this site. We wanted to create some kind of document that captured our experiences of walking together, an expression of all the joy, the wonder and also the darkness that we discovered along the way.

After a few articles it became clear to us that this was an idea we wanted to explore by creating some kind of physical item. Inspired by old walking guides, mystical maps and a shared love of zines the idea for "Wanderweg" slowly took shape. Our words delved deeper into the places we'd been, our experiences mixing with their histories and folk tales. At times, out there, it can feel difficult to tell the two apart. This is something we wanted to try and convey on the page. Our small contribution to honouring the Sublime, may it resonate with all your own experiences amongst the trees!

We favoured traditional techniques in the making of this zine, we wrote all the words, took all the photographs. Pen and ink sketches are by Thomas, illustrations by Kiyo and archive images from the Old Masters. Our hope is that what we have created feels like a welcoming place for all to celebrate our shared love of walking, nature, folklore, art and community.
